Gilles Clément
The 2025 Art Prize winner, French landscape architect Gilles Clément, presents his work.
What characterises Clément is his unique approach – he works at the intersection of philosophy, ecology, art, horticulture and landscape architecture – his deep respect for the power of nature and the humility he feels in the face of it.
The jury writes: “The idea of observing more and gardening less, of supporting rather than controlling, is a cornerstone of his work. Clement rejects the concept of a garden in which nature is to be kept under control.” Examples include Park Henri Matisse, Lille, the former submarine base at Saint Nazaire and the Garden de l’Arche La Défense, Paris.
