Heinz Emigholz: Slaughterhouses of Modernity & Mamani in El Alto
Francisco Salamone’s (1897–1959) quasi-fascist architecture in the Argentinian pampas, Jorge Luis Borges‘ text Deutsches Requiem (1946), the utopian buildings of Freddy Mamani Silvestre (*1971) in El Alto/Bolivia and the restorative “Stadtschloss” aka “Humboldt Forum” in Berlin are the cornerstones of Heinz Emigholz’s new analytical documentary Slaughterhouses of Modernity. The film examines the dual character of architectural modernism in the field of tension between avant-garde and political propaganda. The documentary Mamani in El Alto will also be shown.
