Tell It to the Stones. The Work of Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub
In a collaboration that spanned nearly 50 years, the filmmaker duo Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub created one of the most influential and controversial oeuvres in modern cinema. The exhibition, which treats the highly detailed, handcrafted working processes of the filmmakers, and also shows newly created artistic positions by international artists, forms the context and resonating space for an extensive programme.
In a complete retrospective, Huillet/Straub’s films will be screened at four venues in Berlin from 15 Oct to 5 Nov. During two Rencontres at the beginning and end of the cycle, numerous guests delve into the multifaceted dimensions of this oeuvre and its contemporary significance. The filmmakers’ productive interest in Arnold Schönberg will be addressed from 7 to 14 Oct, and also reapproached musically through the reworking of a Schönberg composition.
