Long Night of Museums Käthe Kollwitz Prize, 2017. Katharina Sieverding

Katharina Sieverding is this year’s prizewinner of the Akademie der Künste’s Käthe Kollwitz Prize. In conjunction with the award ceremony, the Akademie is showing an exhibition with 19 works by Katharina Sieverding, in a 252 x 356 cm format. Some of these works have been used extensively as posters in public spaces since the 1990s. There are also nine wall-sized projections, TESTCUTS 1966-2010, each composed of 580 photomontaged triptychs.

The Akademie der Künste is offering curators’ tours and express guided tours through the exhibition on the “Long Night of Museums”. On this special event date the exhibition is open until midnight.

The idea for the Long Night of Museums was inaugurated in Berlin in 1997. It was so successful that in the interim this concept has been copied by nearly all the larger cities in Germany and many abroad. Museums open their doors to the public at unusual hours, while frequently highlighting another side of their traditional offers and programmes. In Berlin a single ticket is valid for visits to nearly 80 museums, including renowned collections, palaces, exciting historical locations, planetariums and multimedia exhibitions.
