The fifth edition of the EM4 series is presented by the Studio for Electroacoustic Music at the Akademie der Künste and the Solistenensemble Phoenix16. The programme showcases pieces with tape and live-electronics by Vinko Globokar, Georg Katzer, Luigi Nono and Helmut Zapf that relate both to the Studio’s origins in the Akademie der Künste der DDR and to the “Uncertain States” programme. The focus here is not only on how composers explore music’s own inherent potentialities to transcend borders, but also their reactions to social conflicts.
