JUNGE AKADEMIE Open Studios

Open Studios

The JUNGE AKADEMIE opens its studios at Hansaviertel for visitors. Fellows of the Performing and Visual Arts as well as Music will present works-in-progress.

With performances by Franziska Wenning at 6:30 and 8 pm in Studio 1 (Duration: 20 min).

Nina Emge (Berlin Fellowship, Visual Arts) reflects on the social dimensions of sound, voice, silence, and practices of listening. Emge's work is centered around issues such as decentralization, shared working methods, and redistribution. During the residency, she explores the relationship between the material, its memory and compositions. At the Open Studios, she will give an insight into these processes.

#WHATSINMYTRASH is an installative short video opera by Sara Stevanović (Werner Düttmann Fellowship, Music), set to premiere in 2026 in Berlin. This ongoing project focuses on personalizing trash and the unexpected connections between trashophobia, soluble materials, and cuteness. At the Open Studios, the composer will share glimpses of her research and preparation process, presenting video, sound, and text materials alongside the opera's characters in a physical space. #WHATSINMYTRASH is built almost entirely from soluble materials and trash collected by the three fellows during their three-month residency in Berlin.

Franziska Wenning (Berlin Fellowship, Performing Arts) is a theatre director and deals with institutionalized body movements of rituals. Using the movement of kneeling as a vessel, she develops the basis for a theatre production. Soil is Lava – Prayers on Bare Ground (working title) calls on kneeling as part of bodily memory and uses theatrical means to question the body-ground relationship present in kneeling from the perspective of queer-feminist ecologies. At the Open Studios, she will share first outcomes of her research in a performance.
