Getting Out of the Climate Crisis with Art and Culture?

The Akademie der Künste and the Umweltbundesamt (UBA, German Federal Environment Agency) will debate the roles of art and culture in the climate crisis. Although environmental protection has long been regarded as an issue for the natural sciences, environmental politics and climate research are gradually coming to the conclusion that the cultural dimensions of sustainability and the role of art must be taken more strongly into consideration in order to firmly entrench environmental protection in our society. The panel discussion – including both climate experts and professionals who work in the cultural sector – takes up the subject of climate and the climate crisis as cultural and historical constructions of reality. It will discuss to what extent the relationship between art and science can contribute to a new understanding between humans and nature.
